A type of melancholy that strike new mother is postpartum depression. It often appears in the first few weeks following the delivery. However, the symptom of postpartum can be happen after a year onwards. The dangerous condition known as postpartum depression have an effect on the development of the newborn, the mother’s physical and mental well- being and the dynamics of the entire family. Postpartum depression can lead to these sentiments in addition to difficulties connecting with the baby, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, feeling of hopelessness or unworthiness, thoughts of harming oneself or the baby and difficulty concentrating or making decision. To avoid this kind of depression, new mothers can enhance their mental health by getting adequate sleep, eating nutritious foods, maintaining good relationship to the family and friends. In addition, she must maintain a regular professional aid to know the status or level of the said depression. Regular exercise and self-care practices like reading a book or taking relaxing bath can also help to control postpartum depression symptoms.
